[Model Answer QP2022 GS4 Ethics]“Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it”. – Dalai Lama

What is Success to You?

“Success is the accomplishment of an aim or a purpose.’’- This is what Google told me!
“If you had to crush someone else’s dream or aspiration to be successful, you cannot call it success.’’ ― Anshu Choudhary
Success means different things to different people. For me, success means bringing joy in my family life in multiple ways and also doing what I truly love!

What Did You Give Up to be Successful?

Success is not true happiness if you have to give up your family or something that you love. God did not create human beings to be greedy, selfish and self-centred. Since we live in a competitive world, we have become ruthless and we do not think about what we are leaving behind to be successful!
For instance we find that people leave their kids and wife behind to move to a new country for better opportunities. Imagine the plight of their wife and how she supported that person all throughout!
We find that people try to take shortcuts, cheat on people and even leave their loved ones behind. Can you truly be successful by making others unhappy and pulling them down? No! Judge your success on the moral grounds and see what you gave up!

You must give up the following to be Successful –

  1. Excuses
  2. Sleep
  3. Unhealthy Lifestyle
  4. Shortcuts
  5. Cheating or Playing Small
  6. Stereotyping Everything
  7. Magic
  8. Self-centered Attitude or the Idea that you are Perfect
  9. Multi-tasking
Never give up on people who have supported you. They are your rock! Never give up on the idea that you can do it! There will be hurdles but you will get there if you are patient! Do you know what success means to me? It is being a good person at all times and instances! If you are a rich person but have mean intentions in your heart, you are not successful!
Hence just never give up being a good person! Be kind, work hard and never cheat or pull others down.
